“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
- Colossians 2:6-7 ESV
Whew! The Holy Spirit truly continues to call and inspire in its ever so amazing ways. Upon being elected as your Mid-Northeast Region Dean last October serves as unmistakable evidence of the Holy Spirit’s continuing influence and insistence.
It is with humility I said yes to the Spirit and thanksgiving to the delegates at the October Convocation who elected me to this esteemed position of service within Christ’s church here within the Mid-Northeast Mission Region. But it is with a deep sense of gratitude I offer our collective “thank you” to our previous Dean, Pastor Nila Cogan, for her faithful five years of leadership & service to our Mid-Northeast Mission District.
Many people within our Mission Region know me, and still many more do not know who this new Dean is. I am the Rev. James F. Neal, ordained into the ministry of Word & Sacrament in the Lutheran tradition in 1971. Over the years I have been blessed to serve in a variety of ministry settings; even mentoring five interns. Each congregational setting taught me an interesting aspect of ministry that added to my continuing growth in serving the Lord. I retired from the active ministry back in 2011 but made a promise to be available to pastors who needed time off, who were ill, church was vacant, etc. Thus, I have been the stated Interim Pastor for two of our NALC congregations, been pulpit supply nearly every Sunday, and over the past year or so was Assistant to our Mid-Northeast Mission Dean for the Butler. Mission District. Today . . . . . . “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted in and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” - Colossians 2:6-7
With humility I ask for your continuing prayers that the Holy Spirit who led me to say YES to God to enter the ordained ministry (which will be 55 years this September) will still lead me to affirm that original YES to God with faithful service as your Region Dean.
In Service to Christ & His Holy Church
The Rev. Dean James F. Neal
Dean of the Mid-Northeast Mission Region

We confess the apostolic faith in Jesus Christ according to the Holy Scriptures. We affirm the authority of the Scriptures as the authoritative source and norm, “according to which all doctrines should and must be judged” (Formula of Concord). We accept the ecumenical creeds and the Lutheran Confessions as true witnesses to the Word of God.
We believe that the mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel and to make disciples for Christ. We believe that making disciples — in our congregations, in our communities and nations, and around the world — must be a priority of the Church in the present age.
We affirm the ecumenical creeds and the faithful witness of the Church across time and space. We endorse the form and practices of the universal Church that are consistent with Scripture, particularly the office of the ministry and the tradition of worship under Word and Sacrament. We seek dialogue and fellowship with other Lutheran churches and with faithful Christians of other confessions.
We strive to be a church that is organized to facilitate the ministries of local congregations in a posture of servanthood and a spirit of partnership, through the provision of resources, connections and information.
